Early years

Mark moved from Glasgow to Newquay in 1985. From about age 11, he would visit Newquay on holiday each year with his dad to surf. When he arrived in the town in 1985, initially it was for another holiday. But he’d fallen in love with the area, made many friends … and decided to stay! The next year he met Angie and their love and journey in life together began. Like many surfers, Mark travelled all over the world to pursue his interest. Back in Newquay in those early years, Mark had a variety of different jobs. He worked as a pool lifeguard, a bouncer and was retained firefighter for a couple of years. Mark also managed a number of surf shops in the town. But his passion for surfing took another step forward when Mark was able to make his own surfboards. His dad helped him to set up in business – and Mark’s own brand, Natural Flight, was born. Several years later, Mark joined Seabase and his excellent reputation grew within the industry.
